Deltek strategy is to invest in web technology rather than desktop technology going forward. In order to pursue this approach and bring the best user experience forward for our customers as quickly as possible, it is necessary that we pivot entirely away from developing and maintaining the desktop client, otherwise known as the Workspace Client.
It is our intention, by Q4 of 2024 the Web Client will have all Maconomy functionality available and will be an adequate replacement for the Workspace Client by then.
Users will have a more modern browser-based interface to the Maconomy application. Much of the core functionality will remain the same in terms of business features and the core features that support your business today will continue to be available; however, the intention here is to re-imagine how your users interact with Maconomy, by improving the overall experience, and bringing forward opportunities to simplify the very robust solution that exists 'under the hood'.
With the introduction of Maconomy 3.0, currently planned for Q4 2024, the Workspace Client will not be available. This means, if your organization decides to upgrade to version 3.0, there will be no option to log into the Workspace Client. For versions prior to 3.0 the Workspace Client will still be available, but only supported for a limited period.
All of our efforts will be deployed on the Web Client, which will further accelerate our web framework strategy in new and exciting ways.
Migration can start today. The latest version of the Web Client introduced numerous usability enhancements and extended coverage of core Maconomy functionality. We already have several large customers using the Web Client for the majority of their users.
If you are a customer who licensed the Maconomy Essentials Cloud solution (DFME), do not worry! As Deltek has standardized your upgrades on an on-going basis, we will publish plans as to which future upgrade will result in your 100% web-based experience. You can expect this to begin after the 2.6.1 upgrades are complete, in the next Maconomy version that you are upgraded to. The updated standard solution that is deployed for Essentials Cloud (DFME) will include additional training materials focused on adopting the Web Client.
The latest version of Maconomy supports front office users in general. Customers can therefore start migrating front office users now. Subsequent releases will extend coverage to more roles including back office and admin users. As we are considering our major milestone of becoming fully web-based by Q4 2024, it is our intention to provide more releases in the 1st half of 2024 to which will give further opportunity (prior to version 3.0) of adopting web-based workflows for more personas and user types.
All Java extensions are already available by default in the Web Client. Layout customizations must be implemented anew. We do not recommend a like-for-like migration of layout customizations since the Web Client uses a different screen format and design system. Please reach out to your CSM or Account Manager in order to establish a plan per your unique needs.
Your CSM can provide you with more details and help you plan your migration to the Web Client.
